Employment Status
Many companies who offer Work from Home employment require that you become a sub-contractor or otherwise known as a “1099 employee”. While we feel that this is certainly a worthwhile approach for some people, it doesn’t fit in with Sutherland’s corporate culture of mentoring and developing those associates that work hard to achieve success and therefore, all Sutherland @ Home associates are direct hire employees that are every bit as much a part of our corporate family as those who sit in Sutherland facilities. You will receive the same training, the same development tools, the same mentoring opportunities and the same opportunities for advancement. In short, as a Sutherland @ Home Associate, you are part of our global family and will be treated as such.
Hours
At this time, Sutherland Home Associate positions are entirely part-time positions, allowing associates to work between 19 (minimum) and 29 (maximum) hours a week. In the future, Sutherland Home Associate may offer full-time positions, so if you are interested in a full-time career with Sutherland, check back on the Sutherland @ Home Portal frequently. During your career as a Home Associate, you may be considered for management positions that are full time positions while still working from the same home environment you have enjoyed as a part time employee. Background Checks, Credit Checks and Drug Testing
Sutherland@Home candidates are required to successfully pass screening that includes a background check and drug test. Additionally, some of our client programs may require an additional credit check as well. Sutherland uses Quest Diagnostics for the drug testing and once an offer has been extended to you, you will be directed to the nearest Quest Diagnostic testing center for drug screening.
Pay
Sutherland @ Home Associates get paid a better than average hourly wage in addition to the scheduling freedom you will enjoy. This ranges from $10 – $15/hr, depending on the type of work needed, your experience in that field and your productivity. We encourage you to have access to a direct deposit account for depositing your paychecks, but we will mail your checks to you if that is not possible. The average time to receive paychecks in regular mail is 3-5 business days.
Scheduling
Sutherland Home Associates enjoy the ability to have direct control over their work schedule. Associates are stack-ranked in their performance against quality parameters and are allowed to create their own schedules from available 2-hr blocks of time based on their ranking. For example, the top performing agents are allowed access to the schedule containing all of the available hours for the first 48hrs after a schedule period is released, so Associate X may look at the available hours and create the following schedule:
- Sunday: Off
- Monday: 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM and 12:00 noon - 3:00 PM
- Tuesday: 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
- Wednesday: 6:30pm – 10:00 PM
- Thursday: Off
- Friday: Off
- Saturday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
As you can see, an Associate’s hard work and dedication to their performance allows them to create the schedule that best suits their lifestyle and other life commitments. How many other jobs let you do that?!
The Home Office Environment
As a Sutherland Home Associate, you will need to be able to provide a dedicated work area that is dedicated to the purposes of performing your duties as a Sutherland Home Associate. This dedicated space needs to be free of distractions so that you may stay focused on providing the very best support for our client customers possible.
Hardware Requirements
You will need a PC that meets the following minimum requirements:
- 32 Bit Windows XP or 32 Bit Windows Vista (Home Premium or Business)
- 1 GHz or higher Intel Pentium 4 or AMD 64 processor
- 1 GB of System Ram for Windows XP or 1.5 GB for Vista
- 20 GB of available hard drive space
- DVD drive
- Sound Card
In addition, you will need a high speed Internet connection that meets Sutherland's minimum bandwidth requirements and an analog noise-canceling multimedia Headset like the one below:
Multimedia analog noise-canceling headsets are typically available where computer accessories are sold such as NewEgg, Best Buy, Radio Shack, Costco and other retailers as well as many online retailers and cost $15-$50, depending on quality. Sutherland recommends products by Plantronics for their high quality and low cost.
